ABOUT BGM //
The Black Girl Magik collective is touring to NY, DC, ATL, NOLA and LA from July 27 - September 28 to address the dire need to create empowering community spaces for Black Women through communal healing, group counseling and open vulnerability.
ABOUT ANAÏS //
Carving a space out for herself through her craft, the thunder she draws from Nina Simone has been her chisel.
Born in Toulouse of Senegalese origin, she learned to navigate displacement over her adolescence, and the conflict between the different dialects she had to learn over the years was resolved when she found her voice in Soul music.
Following her breakthrough record ‘Nina’, a chant of liberation that emerged when she confronted her fears, she went on to release her transcendent debut album, ‘Darkness at Play’, on which Om’Mas Keith and close collaborator Aston Rudi combined craftsmanship.
The lead single, ‘Woman’, recounts her coming into womanhood and features empowering words courtesy of Princess Nokia. As she strides into the multitude of her truths, she uncovers her purpose. She sings for freedom; she sings the song that The Caged Bird Sings.
All of the funds raised through ticket sales and donations will go towards the continued production of the BGM Meetup in the remaining cities of D.C., ATL, NOLA, and LA.
