This series started in April 2020, as a means to explore the profound service the women pictured are giving during this time of historic pandemic. I was motivated by my own roles as a mother, partner, daughter, sister, photographer, and friend, to begin this work. All images were photographed from April 14, 2020 onward, in and around Baltimore.

Jill Fannon: What recent moments have most made you smile?

Jaclyn: Simple moments with my immediate family (board games, soccer in the backyard, bike rides), taking my face mask and bandana off at the end of my shift, and a good sweaty run.

JEAN: I try to see the patients as they are and not as I think they should be. In doing that, I can assess their medical and at times social life better. It makes me feel better when I have really connected with a patient. When I am not working, I am practicing yoga and trying to do art as much as I can.

Jean & katie

Jill Fannon: What recent moments have most made you smile?

JEAN: I am grateful for my yard and the beautiful cherry trees that line my driveway. I planted those trees about 27 years ago and when they bloom it gives me great joy.

SUE, NURSE PRACTITIONER

Jill Fannon: How long have you been in your profession?

SUE: I have been a nurse for 36 years, and for the last 17 years of that a nurse practitioner.
